Type 1 Medications
Type 1 medications require a prescriber to register with the Tracked Prescription Program (TPP) Alberta and use a TPP Alberta secure prescription form when prescribing these medications.
Type 2 Medications
Type 2 medications are monitored electronically through Alberta Netcare, Pharmaceutical Information Network (PIN) but do not require a prescriber to register or use a TPP Alberta secure prescription form.
Veterinary Medications
All medications listed on the Veterinary list require a prescriber to register with TPP Alberta and use a TPP Alberta secure prescription form. Medications that are prescribed for a period of use under 96 hours are exempt from this requirement.

TPP medication lists evolve as needed, based on certain factors and criteria, to ensure they reflect the ongoing changes in health care and the needs of TPP Alberta as a program.
